The Ultimate Guide to Collecting Pokémon Mega Evolution: Delta Reign & Building Your Battle Deck

The Ultimate Guide to Collecting Pokémon Mega Evolution: Delta Reign & Building Your Battle Deck

A Quick Note About Buying and Selling Cards at Gamesland Canada

Before diving in, we want to clarify that Gamesland Canada sells Pokémon TCG products but does not buy or sell individual cards, personal collections, or other secondary-market products from individuals. This may change in the future, but for now, it is not feasible for us.

If you're looking to build your collection, find new sealed products, or participate in Pokémon events, we're happy to help!

The next exciting chapter in the Pokémon Trading Card Game is here! Mega Evolution—Delta Reign brings Mega Rayquaza back into the spotlight, introduces exciting new cards and strategies, and gives collectors and competitive players plenty to look forward to.

Whether you're looking to complete the entire set, hunt for rare alternate-art cards, or build a powerful deck for your next Pokémon League event, Delta Reign has something for everyone.

At Gamesland Canada, we're excited to help Edmonton's Pokémon community collect, trade, learn, and play!

1. Getting Started with Delta Reign

Delta Reign is the sixth expansion in the Mega Evolution series, featuring more than 135 cards and some exciting additions to the Pokémon TCG.

The expansion features:

  • Four Mega Evolution Pokémon ex.

  • Six additional Pokémon ex.

  • 14 Illustration Rare Pokémon.

  • 17 Ultra Rare Pokémon and Trainer cards.

  • Six Special Illustration Rare cards.

  • A new Legendary Stadium mechanic featuring paired Stadium cards.

The set also brings back Mega Rayquaza, alongside Mega Golurk, Mega Malamar, and Mega Golisopod.

What's the best way to start collecting?

There are several ways to approach collecting Delta Reign:

Booster Packs: The traditional way to collect. Every pack offers an opportunity to discover something new, from playable cards to beautiful Illustration Rares.

Booster Boxes: A great option for collectors who want to open multiple packs and build up their collection.

Elite Trainer Boxes: An excellent starting point for new collectors. ETBs include booster packs, accessories, and useful supplies for organizing and protecting your cards.

Singles: If you're looking to complete your collection or obtain a specific card, purchasing individual cards can be more efficient than relying entirely on booster pack openings.

What is a Master Set?

For dedicated collectors, completing a Master Set is one of the biggest challenges.

A Master Set generally includes:

  • Every numbered card in the expansion.

  • All available reverse-holo variations.

  • Secret Rare and special artwork cards.

  • Promotional cards associated with the expansion.

Delta Reign also introduces paired Legendary Stadium cards. Make sure you collect both halves of each Stadium artwork!

A binder with enough room for the main set, reverse holos, secret rares, and promotional cards is a great way to keep everything organized.

2. Delta Reign Chase Cards: What Should You Be Looking For?

Every Pokémon expansion has cards that collectors get especially excited about. These are commonly known as chase cards.

Delta Reign has some particularly exciting cards, with Mega Rayquaza ex leading the way.

Here are some of the cards worth keeping an eye out for:

Mega Rayquaza ex – Mega Hyper Rare

The ultimate headline card of Delta Reign. Its gold Mega Hyper Rare treatment makes it one of the biggest targets for collectors opening this expansion.

Mega Rayquaza ex – Special Illustration Rare

Another major chase card featuring special artwork. Mega Rayquaza is one of the most recognizable Pokémon in the franchise, making this version especially desirable to collectors.

Other Special Illustration Rare Cards

Keep an eye out for these additional high-rarity cards:

  • Raikou ex – Special Illustration Rare

  • Mega Golurk ex – Special Illustration Rare

  • Mega Golisopod ex – Special Illustration Rare

  • Aarune – Special Illustration Rare

  • Zinnia's Trust – Special Illustration Rare

Other Cards Worth Collecting

Don't overlook the Illustration Rares and other special cards throughout the expansion.

Some particularly interesting cards include:

  • Kyogre

  • Groudon

  • Kecleon

  • Growlithe

  • Masquerain

  • Eevee

  • Sprigatito

Not every valuable or desirable card needs to be the rarest card in the set. Some collectors prefer artwork, favourite Pokémon, or cards that have a place in their favourite decks.

3. Where Can You Check Delta Reign Card Values?

One of the most exciting parts of collecting Pokémon cards is discovering what your latest pull might be worth.

Card values can change frequently depending on availability, collector demand, competitive play, and the condition of the card.

We recommend using the following resources to research approximate card values:

TCGplayer

  • Website: https://www.tcgplayer.com

  • One of the most widely used resources for Pokémon card pricing.

  • Check the Market Price and recent sales information.

  • Search using the exact card name and collector number.

PriceCharting

  • Website: https://www.pricecharting.com

  • Useful for researching raw and graded card values.

  • Offers historical pricing information and market trends.

eBay Sold Listings

  • Website: https://www.ebay.ca

  • A useful way to see what collectors have actually paid for individual cards.

  • Search for the exact card and filter results to sold or completed listings.

Collectr

  • Website: https://www.getcollectr.com

  • A useful collection-tracking tool that can help organize your cards and monitor estimated collection values.

Important Tips When Checking Card Values

Remember that asking prices aren't necessarily the same as actual selling prices.

When researching a card:

  1. Make sure you're looking at the correct card number and rarity.

  2. Compare cards in similar condition.

  3. Check recent completed sales rather than relying only on active listings.

  4. Remember that graded cards and ungraded cards have different markets.

  5. Check prices regularly, as the market can change quickly after a new expansion releases.

A note from Gamesland Canada: We are happy to help customers enjoy collecting and playing Pokémon TCG. However, Gamesland Canada does not purchase individual Pokémon cards, collections, or other secondary-market products from individuals. We do not buy or trade individual cards or collections.

4. Building a Competitive Pokémon Battle Deck

Collecting cards is only half the fun. One of the best parts of Pokémon TCG is taking your favourite cards and building a deck to compete against other players.

If you're new to competitive Pokémon, building your first deck can seem intimidating. Fortunately, there are some excellent resources available to help you get started.

Start With a Strategy

Before choosing individual cards, decide what you want your deck to accomplish.

Some common strategies include:

  • Aggressive decks: Focus on attacking quickly and taking Prize cards early.

  • Setup decks: Build your board and develop powerful attackers over several turns.

  • Control decks: Disrupt your opponent's strategy and limit their options.

  • Combination decks: Use specific Pokémon, Abilities, and Trainer cards together to create powerful interactions.

Mega Evolution Pokémon ex can be exciting centrepieces for a deck, but remember that a strong deck needs more than just powerful Pokémon.

The Basic 60-Card Deck Structure

Standard Pokémon TCG decks contain exactly 60 cards.

A typical starting point might look something like this:

Card Type Suggested Starting Range
Pokémon 15–20
Trainer Cards 30–35
Energy Cards 8–12

These are general guidelines, not strict rules. Your deck's strategy, Energy requirements, and card combinations will determine the best balance.

Don't Underestimate Trainer Cards

New players often focus too heavily on collecting powerful Pokémon while overlooking the importance of Trainer cards.

Trainer cards help you:

  • Draw additional cards.

  • Search your deck for specific Pokémon.

  • Find the Energy you need.

  • Recover important cards.

  • Disrupt your opponent's strategy.

  • Keep your deck consistent.

A competitive deck needs to be able to execute its strategy consistently, and Trainer cards are a major part of making that happen.

5. The Best Resources for Building Your Pokémon TCG Deck

You don't need to figure out deck building on your own. There are several excellent websites and tools that can help you learn, research, and improve.

6. How to Turn Your Delta Reign Collection Into a Battle Deck

Once you've opened some packs and started building your collection, you can begin looking for opportunities to build a deck.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Identify the Pokémon you want to build your strategy around.

  2. Research existing decklists using Limitless TCG.

  3. Look for Trainer cards that support your main Pokémon.

  4. Make sure your Energy requirements are covered.

  5. Test your deck using Pokémon TCG Live.

  6. Make adjustments based on your results.

  7. Bring your deck to an in-store event and get experience playing against other people.

Don't be afraid to experiment! Some of the most enjoyable decks come from trying combinations that other players might overlook.

Also remember that competitive formats have rotation rules and card legality requirements. Always check the current Standard format before building a tournament deck.
